Stall Skins - The Alternative to Rubber Mats We are celebrating 10 years of providing stall flooring solutions to the equine community. Contact us to find out why thousands of horse owners have switched to the simple, one-piece, water-permeable stall flooring system that pays for itself in less than one year.
The alternative to rubber stall mats! Stall Skins are the ultimate stall and paddock liner that costs 50% less than rubber stall mats. Lightweight, durable, easy to clean and most importantly, Stall Skins are water permeable! That means your bedding stays dry and your horse stays clean. Dirt floors develop holes, which need constant leveling, and bedding is always contaminated with dirt. Solid Rubber Stall Mats have helped solve these problems, but in turn have created problems of their own. Rubber stall mats are expensive, bulky and heavy to handle, and tend to shift. But their biggest drawback is their inability to let urine drain through. This causes large volumes of expensive urine soaked bedding to be removed daily. Stall Skins are the most affective stall flooring system available. The number one alternative to rubber stall mats, soft stall flooring, ring and sand mats, rubber shaving alternatives and like equine flooring systems. Barn mats and equine flooring has been vastly improved with Stall Skins in the marketplace. Also used as stable mats, paddock liners and kennel mats. Stall Skins are multi-functional and cost efficient. Enter the Stall Skin Solution! A low cost, lightweight (12 x 12 = 40 lbs.) one-piece stall liner, which will not shift in your stall. Stall Skins are a water permeable GeoTextile, made out of polypropelene, so your bedding stays dryer and lasts longer. The concept is quite simple: If a Stall Skin can save you $1.00 or more per day on bedding costs, it will pay for itself in only 9 months. Over the past 14 years, Stall Skins has developed what we think, is the perfect balance between durability and permeability (the ability for liquid to pass through the Stall Skin material). A recent entrant into the permeable flooring market seems to be very excited about their "30% thicker" fabric. We tried that...and didn't like it. By using a thicker fabric, and melting the top by applied heat, they certainly have a tougher product. But at what cost? Our experience taught us that sacrificing permeability for a thicker product defeats the whole idea of a permeable stall floor. If you're looking for durability, why not buy rubber mats? They'll be around for your grandkids to use! We've never claimed that Stall Skins are as durable as rubber mats...but will pay for themselves in as little as one year by savings on bedding material.
After 14 years of providing Stall Skins to the horse community, and as the developer of this concept, we think our product is the perfect balance. See for yourself.
We sent both products to a lab for testing.
Stall Skins drain nearly three times as fast, and the thicker fabric actually stretches more.

It appears they are stronger in the machine direction due to the very high heat process, but that also makes them flow less water than we do on the Stall Skins. What is not good is the lack of flow rate the other product yields. With bark, or other materials, on top of the fabric, it further restricts water flow. I believe that is a definable difference in the performance of the fabrics. The other product also elongates much more than the Stall Skins, that is not good in this application.
To save money you will need to do two things: 1. Establish good drainage under the Stall Skin. it is important to pull urine through the Stall Skin as quickly as possible. This keeps bedding dry and clean. 2. Use Ample Bedding (8"-10") - Remember, with bedding it's not what you put in that costs you money, but what you throw away! Our concept: put in deep bedding but throw out very little. Deep bedding protects the durable Stall Skin while the Stall Skin buffers your expensive bedding from dirt and urine. |
